Who is Alison Schick?

Hey, I’m Alison — a Graphic Designer with an Advanced Diploma (with honours) in Graphic Design from Durham College, with a focus on advertising, illustration, book and vinyl cover art, brand identities, typography, and editorial design. Before discovering graphic design, I was drawn to architecture and engineering because I loved structure, systems, and the way thoughtful design could shape how people experience something. In a way, that interest never really left — I just found a different kind of architecture through visual design.

I enjoy creating work that feels intentional, immersive, and emotionally engaging, whether it’s a campaign, publication layout, illustration, or album artwork. Outside of design, I also love creating art in other forms, especially painting and sculpture, which continue to influence the way I approach creativity and visual storytelling. When I’m not designing, I’m usually pulling inspiration from music, film, and visual culture.

ABOUT ME

Why ACHROMASCH?

ACHROMASCH started as a play on the word “achromatic,” meaning the absence of colour — something I chose ironically as a designer and artist whose work is heavily driven by visual expression. The name also pulls from my own identity, combining the “A” from my first name with the “SCH” from my last name to create something personal while still feeling like its own creative extension of myself.

I wanted the name to feel industrial, atmospheric, and slightly cryptic — almost like it could exist as the title of an album or visual project. A lot of that inspiration came from music, especially Rammstein and the bold mechanical aesthetics that shaped my creative interests long before graphic design. During the brainstorming process, one of my notes was: “whatever one sounds more like a Rammstein song haha.” Over time, ACHROMASCH became less of a username and more of a creative identity that reflects both structure and expression within my work.
